Is There Such a Thing as a “Family Doctor” in Phuket?

Short answer: Not really.

There are no public health funds, no assigned doctors, no pediatric clinics that track your child from birth to age 6.
There’s no one who knows your entire medical history unless you keep it.

What does exist?
Private hospitals. Private clinics.
Some are excellent. Some are… definitely not.

When I don’t feel like dealing with a full hospital, and it’s something small —
a weird ear thing, a skin rash, or something minor but annoying —

I go to this place:

Saiyuan Medical Clinic (Rawai)
Google it exactly like that. It’ll come up.

📞 096-636-3698
📞 076-602-443
Hours: Monday–Friday, 9 AM to 8 PM (but don’t trust that blindly)

Important note:

The doctor shows up whenever she wants.
Appointments are possible, but not necessary.
She usually comes around 4 PM… or 4:15… or maybe not.
Just call before you go.

The space is tiny.
Everyone sits in one room. No ceilings. Thin walls.
You’ll hear the guy next to you explain he has chlamydia — loudly.

But it works.

Cost:

  • 500 THB per visit (not including medication)
  • You can buy meds there or at any nearby pharmacy

And yes — most medications in Thailand do not require a prescription.
That includes antibiotics, ear drops, and even Ritalin.

prescription. For example, you can buy antibiotics, ear drops, and even Ritalin at pharmacies without a doctor’s prescription.

Other small clinics include NABON, Lyfe, Family Health Care Center (Google them). But again – they are very limited.
