How’s the Healthcare in Phuket?
Short answer: surprisingly advanced — with a few caveats.
Thailand is known for having some of the best private healthcare in Asia, especially for:
- Cancer treatment
- Orthopedic surgery
- Gender reassignment
- Stem cell therapy
- Aesthetic medicine
But let’s narrow it down to Phuket.
Private vs. Public
- Private Hospitals:
Excellent care, modern facilities, English-speaking doctors.
You’ll pay more, but the experience is smooth and fast. - Public Hospitals:
Lower costs, longer wait times, limited English, fewer specialists.
If you have private insurance — there’s no reason to go public.
Department Notes:
- Orthopedics
World-class. Phuket sees a lot of motorbike injuries, so trauma care is highly developed. - Pediatrics
Adequate for everyday care, but development services (speech, OT, behavioral) are more limited. - Aesthetic & Cosmetic Treatments
Among the best in the world. This is a medical tourism hotspot. - Women’s Health
Mixed reviews. Some clinics are excellent, some average.
You just need to know where to go (see previous post).
Hospitals I Recommend:
- Bangkok Hospital Phuket — Best facilities and emergency care.
Instagram: @bangkokhospitalphuket - Siriroj Hospital — Slightly smaller, more personal, also under Bangkok Hospital Group.
Instagram: @bangkokhospitalsiriroj - Dibuk Hospital — Good for basic needs, but not always fully staffed or equipped for everything.

Bottom line:
If you have insurance or the budget for it, Phuket’s private care system is more than good — it’s excellent.
